Nancy Spence is the Gender Adviser of the CBMS Research Program. She has been a gender consultant for close to twenty five years, mostly working within global, multi-lateral and regional organizations. For ten of those years, she assessed, designed and implemented gender mainstreaming programmes for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in Canada, and Southeast Asia (1989-1999). As Director of Gender Affairs at the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, UK, (1999-2005) she led their gender mainstreaming initiatives in the countries of the Commonwealth, and laid the foundation for their current gender and trade programme. Since 2005 she has undertaken consultancies for the UN ITC UNICEF UN Women and the Asian Development Bank. She now resides in Toronto, Canada and is Director of the Economic and Development Affiliates (ESDA), a consulting firm.
