Miriam W. Oiro Omolo, Ph.D. is the Executive Director at the African Policy Research Institute (APRI). She manages research and policy communication at APRI in the following thematic areas: trade and investment, governance and public finance, natural resource and climate change and social sector. Before joining APRI, she worked at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) in Kenya as head of Programmes and was also in charge of research and public policy advocacy issues relating to trade, development and poverty reduction. Having previously worked at the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) in Kenya, where she managed collaborative research projects in several Subs Saharan Africa countries. She has 22 years of experience in international trade and development, poverty and gender issues as well public finance management. She consults for the World Bank Group on public finance management and poverty issues.
She holds a doctorate degree in economics (D.Litt. et Phil. Economics) from the University of South Africa, where she examined the impact of trade policy reforms on household welfare in Kenya using a computable general equilibrium (CGE) model. She undertook her master’s degree in economics from the University of Nairobi and her bachelor’s degree in economics from Kenyatta University in Kenya. Her main areas of research interest are: trade, development and poverty, public finance management and the emerging extractive sector. She has experience in both macro and micro econometric modeling using large survey data sets. Miriam is a network member of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and African Growth Policy Modeling (AGRODEP) Network hosted by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Dr. Miriam W. Oiro Omolo is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience in order to equip future generations with the right knowledge and skills for building the nation of Kenya. She is an Adjunct Lecturer at Strathmore University’s Business School where she lectures on managing decentralized funds, development economics and international trade and finance. She supervises both doctorate and masters’ students in the same subject areas.
