Dr Melkisedeck L Majaha is a Public health specialist and employee of the National Institute for Medical Research(NIMR). Holder of MBA from Mzumbe University and MSc in Public Health from Hubert Kairuki Memorial University. Participated in studies as PI and Co investigator sponsored by Global fund, CDC/WHO and GTZ also involved in consultancy work . Through this exposure has attained enough experience in health system management, monitoring and evaluation. In strengthening the capacity in research he has established the collaboration with Muhimbili Medical Research Centre in conducting research on key studies in HIV and TB prevention and control in risk assessment, TB patients cost-related and management
Responsibilities at NIMR-Amani Centre:
Serves as the Head of Gonja station since 2009 to date and member of the Amani Medical Research Centre management. As an overall in charge of the station to stimulate positive and innovative research ideas with impact to quality health care services. Also participated in setting of the strategies in the improvement of the capacity of the station to establish a participatory approach in the identification of community problems for the sound and appropriate intervention.
Experience and Skills: Dr Majaha has experience of more than 15 years on health system management in the country. Also participated in clinical trials and community-based deployment intervention studies. Entrusted to be regional hospital Medical Officer incharge and District Medical Officer. A founder of the “Let's go initiative” which was dealing in supporting children coming from rural poor families to access tertiary health care services.
Interest: High interest in participatory community-based intervention studies, understanding of epidemiological skills, evaluation and management.
Achievements:
Dr Majaha was among the National Co-opted Members of Malaria Case management as a facilitator. Also contributor of Malaria Case Management Manual for Prescribers of Uncomplicated and Severe Malaria 2nd and 3rd edition of Ministry of Health (MOH) of 2003. Coordinated one of the Multinational Country studies on the deployment of the Rectal Artesunate for under-five children in the country from 2002 – 2007 sponsored by WHO/TDR/UNICEF/ UNDP and World Bank under auspices of NIMR
