Lucius is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Malawi. His research agenda has recently spanned a range of applied microeconomic topics including youth labour market experiences in Africa, agricultural policy interventions and international migration. Methodologically, much of his applied work involves randomized controlled trials in field settings and quasi-experimental techniques. Financed by the partnership for economic policy (PEP), he (together with colleagues at the University of Malawi) has just finalized a field experiment in rural Malawi, where he was studying the effects of mobile money services on savings and financial behavior of members of village savings and loan associations (VSLA). As a research assistant at the University of Michigan, he is currently among a team of researchers running a research project on remittances among migrant workers in the UAE and Philippines. He teaches courses in econometrics and mathematical statistics at Masters and Undergraduate levels. He has conducted research and provided consultancy services (independently and collaboratively) for the following organizations; The World Bank, International Labour Organization (ILO), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), OXFAM, and Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP). A native of Malawi, he obtained Undergraduate and Master degrees in Economics from the University of Malawi. He also holds a certificate in Policy Impact Analysis obtained from the University of Laval, Canada.
