Benin, like many African countries, faces significant educational challenges—including persistent disparities in enrollment, retention, and learning outcomes—which are in creasingly compounded by the effects of climate change. This research proposal aims to estimate the impact of climate extremes on educational outcomes in Benin, using a novel combination of school-level administrative data (EducMaster, 2020–2025) and individual-level census microdata (IPUMS, 1979–2013). Employing fixed-effects regression models and OLS with region fixed effects, the study will examine the effects of temperature and precipitation anomalies on school enrolment, absenteeism, dropout, and performance, while also exploring regional (north–south) and gender disparities. This research will provide the first rigorous quantification of the climate–education nexus in Benin, generating evidence to inform climate-resilient education policies.
