The STEM Education for Empowerment Project (STEEP) is a four-year initiative (2022-2026) led by Humber College in partnership with CAP Youth Empowerment Institute (CAPYEI) in Kenya and Hahujobs in Ethiopia. The project aims to enhance gender equality and empower adolescent girls (ages 14-18) from marginalized communities in Kenya and Ethiopia by increasing their participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and employment opportunities. STEEP targets adolescent girls from low-income and vulnerable communities, providing them with interest, skills, and confidence to pursue further education or careers in STEM. The program addresses the barriers that limit girls’ access to STEM education and employment, including gender discrimination, lack of resources, social norms, and economic challenges.
