Context: women face important barriers in equitable access to resources, agency capacity and decision-making power, especially in developing countries. These dimensions are subsumed within the concept of economic empowerment. Objective: Identify what interventions and approaches have proved successful in fostering improvements in female empowerment in the developing world. If possible, the study will provide magnitude of the impacts, as well as report differential effects by population sub-groups and discuss contextual barriers or facilitators to successful interventions. The final goal is to provide an objective and comprehensive summary of the best evidence related to interventions to improve female empowerment.
