21-Mastercard-Kenya-KIPPRA What Works for Youth Employment in Africa: Empirical Review of Youth Employment Policies and their Impact in Kenya

Abstract

The review focused on youth policies as well as youth programmes supported through any public or mixed (public and private) initiative, that provides training, wage subsidies, job search assistance or starting capital to the self-employed. The review of policies encompassed active labor policies for the youth including entrepreneurship support and internships. The study findings will be disseminated to maximize the chances of research uptake and to inform relevant policy debates while supporting evidence-based policy making. The Study will also inform the Mastercard’s Young Africa Works Strategy which set out an ambitious goal to secure employment for youth in Africa that is dignified and fulfilling which resonates very well with Kenya’s context.
